mplayer-gui software package provides movie player for Unix-like systems, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install mplayer-gui
mplayer-gui is installed in your system.
Make ensure the mplayer-gui package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep mplayer-gui *
You will get with mplayer-gui package name, version, architecture and description in a table
